Mr. Sonjoy Chatterjee, Executive Director on the Board of ICICI Bank is responsible for Corporate & Investment Banking, Government Banking and International Banking business of the Bank.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from IIM, Bangalore.

Mr. Chatterjee, was the Managing Director & CEO of ICICI Bank UK Plc, rated Baa1 by Moody’s, with assets of about Rs. 280.00 bn and Profit before tax of Rs. 2.10 bn for the half year ended September 30, 2007. He was responsible for ICICI Bank’s North American, European and CIS operations and was also responsible globally for the top 50 Indian corporate accounts of ICICI Bank.

Mr. Chatterjee joined erstwhile ICICI’s (eICICI) project finance business in Kolkata in April, 1994. During the period 1998-2000, Mr. Chatterjee was Head of Strategic Support in the Office of the Group CEO, eICICI during which time ICICI transformed itself from a development financial institution to a universal banking group with interests in banking, insurance, private equity and asset management. Between 2000-02 he was responsible for managing some of the key corporate relationships of eICICI.

Mr. Chatterjee moved to London in 2003 to set up ICICI Bank’s first overseas subsidiary. Today ICICI Bank UK Plc is the largest overseas Indian bank and the highest rated Indian bank. ICICI Bank UK Plc has achieved leadership in overseas acquisitions by Indian corporates, has high street retail operations across 7 branches with a 30% market share in remittances to India and is a leader in Britain’s local internet savings market. It also has a branch in Antwerp, Belgium focussed on the diamond trade finance business.

Mr. Chatterjee is a member of the EU Advisory Group of the City of London. He takes a deep interest in India’s globalisation programme and is Chairman of ‘The India Group’ a private sector alliance of India’s largest corporates in UK and Europe. Mr. Chatterjee is also designated as ‘International Envoy’ for the City of London. He is a gym enthusiast and enjoys playing drums for rock music.
